Cressex in the Community

At Cressex we subscribe to the old African proverb: “It takes a whole village to bring up a child.” While the staff in school are dedicated to ensuring that we provide the best we can to each individual student to enable him or her to succeed, we could not do our job effectively without the involvement of many very important partners.

Partnerships with Parents

All research tells us that young people thrive at school if they receive good support from home as well as school. We look to the parents of our students to play an active part in their learning, development and success. It is especially helpful if parents can:

• discuss students' learning with them - what is going well and what is proving difficult in school
• provide a quiet space in which students can do their homework and take an active interest in what they are doing
• work with the school on ensuring that students attend regularly and arrive punctually
• encourage students to follow healthy lifestyles, including eating well, sleeping well and taking physical exercise
• and stay in contact with the school and make sure that we are aware of any significant events in the young person's life or difficulties they face.

We report regularly to parents on all students' progress and are quick to contact parents if there is anything we need to discuss.

We know that there is always scope for us to improve and are therefore very grateful for the feedback parents provide us formally using our on-line surveys or through informal contact.
Parents are always welcome to visit the school to discuss any aspect of their child's education. We can provide interpreters if needed.

The Governing Body

Cressex Governors come from all parts of our community, with a great range of backgrounds and skills. Some of us are parents of Cressex students, some work in local businesses, some are active in faith or community groups, some work at Cressex. What we have in common is our commitment to develop and improve the school. We want Cressex to be the school that all local parents choose for their children.

We are responsible for ensuring that teaching, learning and discipline at the school reach the highest possible standards. We meet regularly both as a whole group and in smaller committees. We visit the school often.

We get involved in school events and do all we can to raise the profile of the school in the wider community.

We are delighted that we are moving into the new school in the coming year. This marks a turning point in the school’s history. At last we will have a building that matches our aspirations for our very special young people and we look forward to a very bright future.

During the course of the 2009-2010 school year, we will be developing our links with Careers Academy, an organisation that provides high quality work experience for Sixth Form students.

In addition to the educational and business partners listed above, we are also very grateful to be able to draw on the expertise of a wide range of other partners, all of whom make an important contribution to life at Cressex.
